Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
In a serious incident reported from Kasthmahal, South 24 Parganas, local resident Dipankar Sardar has accused a ration dealer of threatening him and his family after he lodged a complaint about irregularities in the state's doorstep ration distribution program. Sardar claimed that he and other residents were not receiving the full rations they were entitled to. He further alleged that instead of wheat, people were being forced to buy maida at a higher price. Sardar himself reported receiving less than the required quantity of ration.
Sardar first approached the local ration dealer, Abhijit Naskar, to address the issue. However, according to Sardar, Naskar dismissed his complaint and allegedly threatened to cancel his ration card if he continued to raise concerns. In an attempt to escalate the matter, Sardar contacted the Chief Minister’s helpline. Following this, the food department reportedly contacted Sardar to inquire about the issue, but the matter seemed to anger the ration dealer.
On December 7, Sardar alleged that Naskar and his associates came to his house and threatened him and his family. Sardar reported that the situation escalated to verbal abuse and intimidation. In response to the threats, Sardar filed a written complaint with the Bishnupur police station and the Bishnupur 1 Block Development Officer, seeking protection and action against the alleged threats. He expressed concerns for his family's safety and demanded an investigation into the matter.
Ration dealer Abhijit Naskar has refuted the accusations, claiming that he did not threaten anyone. Naskar stated, "I never threatened anyone. I only asked why Sardar kept making such complaints, but he did not respond. This is a political conspiracy against me." The police have started investigating the complaint, while the food department is also reviewing the claims regarding irregularities in the ration distribution system in the area.
